Yes, this was a long post but soooo worth it. All your photos made the narrative come to life. We take so much for granted so it's humbling to read about those who have so much less and yet are content.

How nice that you were able to travel with your cousin, Barb. And Serder must be such a nice young man. I hope all of his dreams come true.

Is there any chance that some of your experiences will find their way into a book?

Love that word "tosser". Can hardly wait for an opportunity to use it :-)

Thank you for such a fascinating write-up on your visit, and some of the peoples met on the Crimean journeys. Unbelievable that we in western Europe know and read so little about eastern Europe - so insular, it's as if we occupied another planet! Hats off to your cousin Barb for her PCore sojourn. Practical challenges look to be made up for by rewarding experiences and friendships. (Reminded me of similar times as a VSO in Nepal).

What's so remarkable about the SP photo's is your posture. You sit and stand so tall and straight - when a neck injury requires careful attn. A 'miracle' when undergoing whistle-stop travel tours and schedules.

I mean, a British (by adoption) tiger -- now i have Crimea on the brain. Apparently I don't need to travel to other continents and fight jet lag to tire out my poor brain -- two children are enough for that.

Thanks for taking the time to write up your visit. The people of Eastern Europe, everywhere I've gone, show an incredible hospitality and warmth, despite whatever challenges they face...tiger feeding? VI may be tough enough to get compared to a Siberian tiger, but you actually get to feed a Crimean one. I'm jealous!

Colin, I did get to Hadrian's Wall. It's always thrilling in a particular way to know you're standing where some important historical event took place. Izdan Ismail, I didn't have time to explore York properly but it is a beautiful city. I wanted to linger in the minster, especially since I'd just finished Hillary Mantel's novel about Thomas Cromwell and Wolsey. Shirley, it's when I get home that I fall apart--stop sleeping etc--on the road, adrenalin keeps me going. BagLady, Bookwitch, Genny, Peggy, Joseph--it was a wonderful trip. I wish I had spent more time in Crimea, although my cousin tells me they had 6 inches of snow two days after I left--she wasn't sure the little bus she rides into town could make it up the hills.

Sara, You and I are approximately the same age. Don't know how you held up physically to do all this traveling. Know you were treated like royalty, but it takes a lot of stamina to make this many visits. Being home must be an adjustment and feel quite good, too.
